Rajdeep Chatterjee is a contestant in Indian Idol 4.

Rajdeep had me from the word “go.” He was the best performer of the evening. For those of us who are Indian Idol loyalists, he brought back memories of Amey Date from Indian Idol 2 who blew us away with his rendition of this legendary song. Here, Rajdeep did the same and he’s only 17! At the end, just when we thought he was done, he springs back like a fireball and shoots off the alaap like it’s nobody’s business. Wowzers! Not to mention that, yes, he does have a cute smile.

SB: He really has a lovely smile. Your voice is also that good. Maybe it’s the happiness that comes through your voice. You sang well, and you know it.
JA: Flawless. It seemed effortless, like a smoothly flowing river.
KK: First, I’ll give Anu Malikji’s statement (In the middle of which Anu Malik himself comes up on stage, the girls results in hand!). From the beginning, you’ve been singing in tune. Don’t ever lose your naïveté.
AM: Gave another really bad couplet, but said Rajdeep’s voice had a lot of power.

And of course, they saved Bhanu for last. I will admit that I’ve had it in for Bhanu since the theater rounds so it gives me great pain to say that he started off pretty well. However, well into the first verse, he went out of tune and never fully recovered. At one point, it felt like nails on a chalkboard. He handled the scale changes pretty decently but a few small good things could not turn his entire performance into a powerful one. I’m not sure what everyone was going on about. I did not like his performance – at all.

SB: One of the best performances of the evening. I really had fun. You sang with feeling and you were so passionate about it. I had fun.
KK: The way that you’ve re-entered life, and the way you’ve progressed, I think you will become the Indian Idol.
JA: I’d just like to say that Rajdeep and Mohit sang really well. And I understood that the Deepak would go to one of them. (The Deepak is a silver coin that the judges were going to give to the best performer of the evening). But you’ve really given them a challenge. It had energy, clarity, throw, feeling, and melody as well. Really good. Of course the judges will get together and decide, but as far as I’m concerned, I will recommend you for the Deepak.
AM: Gave him the Deepak. This boy has kept trying for Indian Idol 1, 2, 3 and 4. He is an example of the never say die spirit. Outstanding singing. One of the best finds. I’m proud of this boy.
